Patricia Vance (R-Cumberland/York) has nominated Merri Lou Schaumann, president of Historic Carlisle, Inc. to participate in the eighth annual Penn Ambassador Program during Heritage Week 2005. "Merri Lou has been a leader in researching and writing about Cumberland County's history, which she began doing after she started to volunteer with the Hamilton Library and the Cumberland County Historical Society in 1971," Vance said. "Her work has ensured that Cumberland County's history will remain alive for generations to come. She is a natural choice to participate in the Penn Ambassador Program." State senators are invited to nominate a community leader who has assisted with historical preservation or commemorating the history of the state to this annual Harrisburg program sponsored by the state Historical and Museum Commission. As a Penn Ambassador, Schaumann is invited to participate in Family Heritage Day on Saturday, March 14 and the annual Penn Symposium on Sunday, March 13, exploring the topic of sports and Pennsylvanians. On Monday, March 14, Schaumann will participate in special guided tours of the Pennsylvania State Archives, the State Museum or the Capitol Building. "The theme for this year's Heritage Week is "Local Heroes: Celebrating Pennsylvania's Sports History." Heritage Week 2005 marks Pennsylvania's 324th anniversary. Vance's district includes all of Cumberland County and Carroll, Fairview, Franklin, Monaghan, Warrington and Washington townships and Dillsburg, Franklintown and Wellsville boroughs in York County. |
