Grant Awarded to North Newton for Independent Study of Landfill Expansion, Vance Says

HARRISBURG – Sen. Patricia Vance (R-Cumberland/York) today announced a $6,722 Department of Environmental Protection grant recently was awarded to North Newton Township.

"Landfill expansion is always a controversial issue." Vance said. "By helping municipalities afford independent studies, government officials can make educated decisions that benefit residents and the environment."

The grant will be used for reimbursement of an independent review of permit applications for expansion of the Cumberland County landfill. This grant program allows a municipality that hosts an existing landfill or resource recovery facility to be reimbursed for the costs incurred for an independent permit application review by a professional engineer who has previous experience. The reimbursement cannot exceed $10,000 per complete application.

Vance's district includes all of Cumberland County and Carroll, Fairview, Franklin, Monaghan, Warrington and Washington townships and Dillsburg, Franklintown and Wellsville boroughs in York County.
