FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Dillsburg Awarded Grant to Establish Farmers' Market, Vance SaysHARRISBURG – A $20,000 First Industries Fund-Agriculture Grant recently was awarded to Dillsburg Borough to lay the groundwork for a farmers' market, announced Sen. Patricia Vance (R-Cumberland/York). "Farmers' markets not only benefit the agriculture community by providing a place to sell goods but also the general public by bringing fresh, quality fruits, vegetables and other products to populated areas," Vance said. "The success of temporary, seasonal markets in Dillsburg over the past few years shows there is a demand for a farmers' market." The grant will be used to study the overall feasibility of establishing an operational farmers' market in Dillsburg. The market would operate at least three days a week. With the closing of the only grocery store in town, there is an increased need for a farmers' market. The First Industries Fund is a grant and loan program aimed at strengthening Pennsylvania's agriculture and tourism industries. It is part of PA Grows, an initiative aimed to assist agriculture producers in gaining access to the capital they need to begin, continue or expand their businesses. The fund is administered by the Commonwealth Financial Authority, an independent agency of the Commonwealth to administer Pennsylvania's economic stimulus packages. Vance's district includes all of Cumberland County and Carroll, Fairview, Franklin, Monaghan, Warrington and Washington townships and Dillsburg, Franklintown and Wellsville boroughs in York County. |
