FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Emissions to be Reduced Through Grant, Vance SaysHARRISBURG – A $100,000 Pennsylvania Air Pollution Control Grant recently was awarded to IdleAire Technologies Corp., announced Sen. Patricia Vance (R-Cumberland/York) "Cumberland County is at one of the critical crossroads of truck traffic with the intersection of the Pennsylvania Turnpike and Interstate 81," said Vance. "As such, numerous truck drivers stop to refuel, rest and eat. Many truck drivers must leave their vehicles idling in order to stay warm and keep their load refrigerated." IdleAire, based in Knoxville, Tenn., offers a quiet, efficient, cost-effective alternative to the extended idling of heavy-duty diesel engines at truck and travel stations across the country. An external heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) unit is installed above each truck parking space. Heat and air are delivered to the truck cab by a system that connects a service delivery console and return air supply to the overhead HVAC unit. The console mounts in the passenger window of the cab, or in an OEM location built into the vehicle itself. By installing IdleAire in Cumberland County emissions generated by idling diesel engines will be reduced. Emissions have a significant impact on air quality by contributing to ground-level ozone and particulate matter pollution. Idling produces about 140,000 tons of nitrogen oxides and 7.6 million tons of carbon dioxide annually. Vance's district includes all of Cumberland County and Carroll, Fairview, Franklin, Monaghan, Warrington and Washington townships and Dillsburg, Franklintown and Wellsville boroughs in York County. |
