FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Newville Sewer and Water Receives Grant, Loan, Vance SaysHARRISBURG – A $1.64 million grant and a $2.15 million loan recently were awarded to Newville Water and Sewer Authority to expand wastewater treatment and extend existing water and sewer service, said Sen. Patricia Vance (R-Cumberland/York). "This funding will help move forward the first commercial development project in western Cumberland County in 25 years," Vance said. "Although, we should also focus on preserving open space, by carefully choosing where to extend public water and sewer service, growth can be focused on areas where the infrastructure can support commercial businesses." The money will be used to expand service from West Pennsboro Township to Penn Township, which is the site of a 2.8 million-square foot distribution center to be constructed by Brewster Development Co. The facility will employ 400 people. The $200 million Water Supply and Wastewater Infrastructure Program, or PennWorks, was established in 2004 and provides single-year or multi-year grants and loans to municipalities and municipal authorities, industrial development corporations and investor-owned water or wastewater enterprises for projects that construct, expand or improve water and wastewater infrastructure related to economic development. Vance's district includes all of Cumberland County and Carroll, Fairview, Franklin, Monaghan, Warrington and Washington townships and Dillsburg, Franklintown and Wellsville boroughs in York County. |
