FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Carlisle Resident Receives Grant to Assist with Costs of Oil Tank Leak, Vance AnnouncesHARRISBURG – A $4,000 Underground Storage Tank (UST) Environmental Cleanup – Home Heating Oil Release Reimbursement grant recently was awarded to a Carlisle resident, said Sen. Patricia Vance (R-Cumberland/York). "Cleanup of a leak of a home heating oil tank is a costly proposition for homeowners," Vance said. "But it is important that a leak is properly dealt with in order to avoid environmental problems in the future. This grant program helps lighten the financial blow of such incidents." The grant to Patricia Cantor will be used to reimburse corrective action associated with a release from a tank on her property. The UST Environmental Cleanup program reimburses for the actual costs of corrective action or $4,000, whichever is less. However, a $1,000 deductible must be paid first by the tank owner. Eligible sites contain USTs with a capacity of 3,000 gallons or less used for storing heating oil for consumption on the premise where stored and have had a release on or after Jan. 30, 1998. Typical eligible corrective action costs include excavating, emptying, cleaning, removing, transporting and disposing of a leaking storage tank; excavating contaminated soil; transporting and disposing of wastes; and restoring disturbed or contaminated areas by backfilling, grading and revegetating. Vance's district includes all of Cumberland County and Carroll, Fairview, Franklin, Monaghan, Warrington and Washington townships and Dillsburg, Franklintown and Wellsville boroughs in York County. |
