Cumberland County Solid Waste Authority Awarded Grant, Vance Says

HARRISBURG – A $4,677 Small Business and Household Pollution Prevention Grant recently was awarded to Cumberland County for its household hazardous waste collection event, said Sen. Patricia Vance (R-Cumberland/York).

"Since Cumberland County began these events in 1998, 457 tons of household hazardous waste has been collected," Vance said. "It has been a highly popular event and has prevented the potential dumping of these hazardous items into the environment. Through this grant program, any financial barriers for counties to hold these types of events have been eliminated."

The grant will be used to reimburse 50 percent of the costs for developing and operating a household hazardous waste (HHW) collection event at the old Big Spring High School.

Vance's district includes all of Cumberland County and Carroll, Fairview, Franklin, Monaghan, Warrington and Washington townships and Dillsburg, Franklintown and Wellsville boroughs in York County.
