FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Four Recycling Grants Awarded in Two Counties, Vance SaysHARRISBURG – More than $500,000 in Recycling Development and Implementation Grants recently were awarded in Cumberland and York counties, said Sen. Pat Vance (R-Cumberland/York). "By improving or creating new recycling opportunities, the amount of trash in landfills is decreased," Vance said. "Hopefully, residents take advantage of recycling opportunities afforded to them through these grants." A $479,693 grant was awarded to Cumberland County to enhance the county's drop-off recycling and yard waste composting program by creating a site in Middlesex Township. Mechanicsburg Borough received a $19,080 grant to enhance the borough's joint composting site with Silver Spring Township and a $12,950 grant to enhance recycling at community events in the borough. A $20,861 grant was given to Dillsburg to enhance the borough's yard waste collection program and adopt a mandatory recycling ordinance. The Recycling Development and Implementation Grant Program reimburses municipalities and counties for 90 percent of the costs of recycling and composting programs. With monies received, municipalities and counties are able to establish recycling programs, purchase supplies and materials, and conduct environmental education. Vance's district includes all of Cumberland County and Carroll, Fairview, Franklin, Monaghan, Warrington and Washington townships and Dillsburg, Franklintown and Wellsville boroughs in York County.
