Vance Votes No on State Budget

HARRISBURG – Sen. Pat Vance (R-Cumberland/York) today issued the following statement regarding her vote on the 2006-07 state budget:

"While I am pleased that the budget includes an increase in education funding, cuts in business taxes and funding to hire more state police troopers, it represents an almost 6 percent increase in spending from last year. We cannot allow the budget to exceed the rate of inflation.

"It's time to show some fiscal restraint. This budget puts the minimum required 25 percent surplus in the state's Rainy Day Fund. With a surplus of about $700 million from last year, we should be saving more money and lowering taxes for our residents. This budget is a recipe for future financial disaster. It takes no talent to spend money, it take talent to save money."

Vance's district includes all of Cumberland County and Carroll, Fairview, Franklin, Monaghan, Warrington and Washington townships and Dillsburg, Franklintown and Wellsville boroughs in York County.
