Six Conservation Partnership Grants Awarded in 31st District, Vance Says

HARRISBURG – More than $800,000 in Community Conservation Partnership Program (CCPP) grants recently were awarded in the 31st Senatorial District, announced Sen. Pat Vance (R-Cumberland/York).

"This important grant program makes recreational opportunities available in the area," Vance said. "Whether hiking the Appalachian Trail or enjoying the neighborhood playground, there are many places available to experience nature. These grants will widen the choices."

The grants awarded were:

  • $225,000 to the Appalachian Trail Conference for further development of the Appalachian National Scenic Trail in Cumberland County including a pedestrian bridge across Wertzville Road.
  • $150,000 to Hopewell Township for development of the Hopewell Township Park including construction of a pavilion, pedestrian trail, parking lot, installation of modular play structures, playground equipment and safety surfacing.
  • $200,000 to Lower Allen Township for further development of Lower Allen Community Park including construction of soccer fields, parking lot improvements, dog park improvements and a pedestrian trail.
  • $40,000 to Penn Township for development of the Penn Township Park including construction of about .75 mile of pedestrian trail, installation of fitness stations and other site related improvements.
  • $150,000 to Upper Allen Township for further development of Simpson Park including construction of pedestrian trail, boardwalks, access pier, volleyball court, site amenities and landscaping.
  • $60,000 to Warrington Township for further development of the Warrington Township Park including construction of trails, installation of volleyball court, horseshow pits and site amenities.

The CCPP grant program is administered by the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources to provide financial and technical assistance to local governments, river and trail organizations, land trusts and other nonprofits for the planning, acquisition and development of park, recreation, conservation and greenways projects. Funding for these projects comes from the Keystone Recreation, Park and Conservation Fund (Key 93) or the Environmental Stewardship Act Fund (Growing Greener II).

Vance's district includes all of Cumberland County and Carroll, Fairview, Franklin, Monaghan, Warrington and Washington townships and Dillsburg, Franklintown and Wellsville boroughs in York County.
