FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Five Environmental Grants Awarded, Vance AnnouncesHARRISBURG – Four municipalities in the 31st Senatorial District and Cumberland County recently were awarded grants from the Department of Environmental Protection, said Sen. Pat Vance (R-Cumberland/York). "These grants show the priority the state places on the environment," Vance said. "By preventing pollution and giving citizens the opportunity to make environmentally healthy choices, we are helping future generations." North Newton Township was awarded a $903 grant, and Middlesex Township received an $815 grant under the Sewage Facilities Enforcement Grant Program. North Middleton Township obtained a $1,180 grant, while Carroll Township in York County received $7,507 under the same program. Sewage Facilities Enforcement Grants are used to reimburse 50 percent of the eligible expenses for performing state sewage regulations. The regulations are outlined in the Pennsylvania Sewage Facilities Act (Act 537). This act was formed to correct existing sewage disposal problems and prevent future problems through proper planning of all types of sewage facilities and permitting of individual or community onlot disposable systems (OLDS), as well as uniform standards for designing OLDS. Cumberland County received a $3,363 Small Business and Household Pollution Prevention Grant. The funding is used to reimburse 50 percent of the costs for developing and operating a household hazardous waste (HHW) collection event at the Cumberland Valley Educational Park on March 25. Vance's district includes all of Cumberland County and Carroll, Fairview, Franklin, Monaghan, Warrington and Washington townships and Dillsburg, Franklintown and Wellsville boroughs in York County. |
