FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Vance Announces Five Recycling Grants Awarded to MunicipalitiesHARRISBURG – Almost $100,000 in Recycling Performance Grants recently were recently awarded to five municipalities in Cumberland and York counties, said Sen. Pat Vance (R-Cumberland/York). "It seems each year residents increase their recycling," Vance said. "Not only do they show concern for the environment, but through their efforts municipalities are able to earn grant funds from the state. This is a win for all." The grant is based on total tons recycled and the municipality's overall recycling rate for calendar year 2004. Camp Hill Borough was awarded $25,138 based on 1,415 tons recycled. Mechanicsburg Borough received $42,283 based on 2,433 tons recycled. Middlesex Township was awarded $19,868 for 1,405 tons recycled while Franklintown Borough received $478 for 36 tons recycled and Warrington Township received $1,429 for 153 tons recycled. This grant helps Pennsylvania communities increase their recycling rates and meet the statewide goal of recycling 35 percent of all municipal waste. It is in addition to funds that the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) allocates to municipalities to establish and maintain recycling programs. Through September of every year, DEP accepts applications for Recycling Performance Grants based on the amount of waste recycled the previous year. The program is open to all local governments with recycling programs. Vance's district includes all of Cumberland County and Carroll, Fairview, Franklin, Monaghan, Warrington and Washington townships and Dillsburg, Franklintown and Wellsville boroughs in York County.
