HARRISBURG – More than $230,000 in Community Conservation Partnership Program (CCPP) grants recently were awarded in Cumberland County, announced Sen. Pat Vance (R-Cumberland/York).

"Recreation is vital to the development of strong communities," Vance said. "Through these grants, three projects throughout the county will come to fruition thus increasing the recreational opportunities for residents and visitors alike. By encouraging people to get outside and be active, we are encouraging healthier lifestyles."

The grants awarded were:

  • $59,000 to Middlesex Township to rehabilitate the township park to include construction of a splash pad, installation of playground equipment, safety surfacing, walkways, site amenities, Americans with Disabilities access and sign improvements.
  • $78,000 to North Newton Township to rehabilitate the township park to include reconstruction of a ball field and soccer fields, access drive and parking lot, construction of basketball and volleyball courts, pavilion, Americans with Disabilities access and sign improvements.
  • $100,000 to West Pennsboro Township to further develop the township park to include construction of multipurpose athletics fields, parking lot, pedestrian trail, installation of playground equipment, safety surfacing, site amenities, Americans with Disabilities access, landscaping and sign improvements.

The CCPP grant program is administered by the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources to provide financial and technical assistance to local governments, river and trail organizations, land trusts and other nonprofits for the planning, acquisition and development of park, recreation, conservation and greenways projects. Funding for these projects comes from Growing Greener II and the Keystone Recreation, Park and Conservation Fund (Key 93).

Vance's district includes all of Cumberland County and Carroll, Fairview, Franklin, Monaghan, Warrington and Washington townships and Dillsburg, Franklintown and Wellsville boroughs in York County.
