Vance Introduces Legislation to Create Public Database with
License, Certification Information on Care Facilities
HARRISBURG – Families would be able to make more educated decisions about
choosing a facility to care for their loved ones under legislation recently
introduced by Sen. Pat Vance (R-Cumberland/York).
Senate Bill 811 would require the Department of Aging to create a Web site
with licensing and certification information on nursing homes, personal care
homes and domiciliary care homes. This data would include information on
violations of statute or regulation by the facility and any corrective action
taken.
"It was shocking to learn that 73 percent of personal care homes in the
Commonwealth have been forced to operate on expired licenses because the
Department of Public Welfare has not inspected them on time ," Vance said. "I
believe the public should have easy access to licensing information not only for
personal care homes, but other facilities as well. In this day and age when many
people turn to the Internet to conduct research, it only makes sense to have
this information available.
"Vance's district includes all of Cumberland County and Carroll, Fairview,
Franklin, Monaghan, Warrington and Washington townships and Dillsburg,
Franklintown and Wellsville boroughs in York County.
