Grant Awarded to North Newton Township, Vance Says
HARRISBURG – A $414 Host Municipal Inspector Grant recently was awarded to
North Newton Township, said Sen. Pat Vance (R-Cumberland/York).
"North Newton Township should be commended for having its own inspector for
the Cumberland County Landfill," Vance said. "This gives the Department of
Environmental Protection an extra set of eyes in ensuring all requirements are
being met. In addition, through this grant the state is able to offset some of
the costs associated with having an inspector."
The Host Municipal Inspector Grant reimburses 50
percent of the cost of employing a host municipal inspector. Municipalities that
host municipal waste landfills, resource recovery (waste-to-energy) facilities
and commercial hazardous waste treatment, storage and disposal facilities can
employ host municipality inspectors. These inspectors are trained and certified
by DEP. They are authorized to enter property, review records required by the
department, take samples and perform inspections. Vance's district includes all of Cumberland County and Carroll, Fairview,
Franklin, Monaghan, Warrington and Washington townships and Dillsburg,
Franklintown and Wellsville boroughs in York County. |
