Vance Announces Five Townships Awarded Sewage Facilities Grants
HARRISBURG – Almost $9,000 in Sewage Facilities Enforcement Grant recently were awarded to Lower Frankford, Middlesex, Monroe, North Middleton and North Newton townships, said Sen. Pat Vance (R-Cumberland/York).
"Ensuring that sewage regulations are met is vital to the quality of our environment, but it can be a costly expense for municipalities," Vance said. "This program helps defray some of these costs without compromising the health and safety of current and future residents."
Sewage Facilities Enforcement Grants are used to reimburse 50 percent of eligible expenses for performing state sewage regulations. Lower Frankford Township received $708. Middlesex Township was awarded $926, and Monroe Township received $5,505. North Middleton Township was awarded $758, and North Newton Township received $829.
The state sewage regulations are outlined in the Pennsylvania Sewage Facilities Act (Act 537). This act was formed to correct existing sewage disposal problems and prevent future problems through proper planning of all types of sewage facilities and permitting of individual or community onlot disposable systems (OLDS), as well as uniform standards for designing OLDS.
