FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Environmentally Friendly Businesses Spotlighted on Vance ProgramHARRISBURG – The September edition of Sen. Pat Vance's (R-Cumberland/York) Vance Report tours Harrisburg Energy Alternatives in Camp Hill and IdleAire's Advanced Travel Center Electrification System in Carlisle. Harrisburg Energy Alternatives, which is located in the former Appleton Papers plant, specializes in oil purification processing and recently found a way to blend glycerin with recycled oil to decrease its fuel oil consumption by 40 percent. This pilot program will lower the current high cost to dispose of glycerin by developing another use for it. IdleAire at the Petrol Truck Stop in Carlisle is one of 126 locations nationwide that allows long-haul truck drivers to shut off their engines by providing individual electrical service for each parking space and heating and cooling in extreme temperatures. For a small fee, drivers have access to central heat and air, cable television, telephone service, e-mail and Internet. "Both of these companies are working to improve the environment for everyone," Vance said. "Harrisburg Energy Alternatives not only has helped reuse a former plant, but through its innovative use of glycerin, it has potentially solved a problem for the biodiesel industry – excess glycerin, which is a byproduct of manufacturing biodiesel. IdleAire has helped address the issue of long-haul trucks needing to idle in order to have power for air conditioning, heating and electrical needs in the cab. Idling trucks burn about a one gallon of diesel each hour. IdleAire not only saves diesel, but also reduces diesel emissions." Vance's show airs on Blue Ridge Communications at 6 p.m. on Tuesdays on Channel 8. Comcast Cable that serves the Shippensburg area will air the program at 4 p.m. on Thursdays on Channel 21. Comcast Cable that serves the Carlisle area will air the show at the same time but on Channel 11. York Community Access shows the program at 9 p.m. on the second Tuesday of the month on Channel 16. Finally, Comcast Cable in the Greater Harrisburg area will air the program on Channel 20 with no set time schedule. Vance's district includes all of Cumberland County and Carroll, Fairview, Franklin, Monaghan, Warrington and Washington townships and Dillsburg, Franklintown and Wellsville boroughs in York County. |
