HARRISBURG – About $900,000 in Community Conservation Partnerships Program grants recently were awarded in the 31st Senatorial District, said Sen. Pat Vance (R-Cumberland/York).

"It is vital that open space be available in every area," Vance said. "Recreation helps build better communities. Furthermore, through these grants we are ensuring that our children will have places not only to play, but also view plants and animals in their natural environment."

The grants awarded were:

  • $189,000 to Carlisle Borough for development of Royer Linear Park including construction of a multi-use paved trail linking Valley Meadows Park with the Nottingham housing development.
  • $190,000 to the Central Pennsylvania Conservancy for payment towards the acquisition of about 106 acres off of Route 74 in Lower Frankford Township for open space and passive recreation.
  • $16,700 to Cumberland County to prepare a conservation plan that provides critical aquifer overlay district and model ordinances to protect the aquifer recharge areas of Cumberland County.
  • $200,000 to East Pennsboro Township to further develop Adams Ricci Community Park including construction of a skateboard park, access drive, parking lot, ADA access, sign and related site improvements.

  • $14,900 to Middlesex Township for development of LeTort Falls Park including construction of a boat access ramp, access road, paved parking area and ADA access.
  • $100,000 to the Conservation Fund for payment towards the acquisition of about 600 acres in Lower Mifflin Township for open space and habitat protection.
  • $28,000 to West Pennsboro Township for additional funding to assist with the development of the West Pennsboro Township parking including construction of multipurpose athletic fields, parking areas, playground equipment and a pedestrian trail.
  • $32,000 to Logan Park Authority for further development of Logan Park including construction of a walking path, installation of play equipment, safety surfacing and ADA access.
  • $82,500 to the Nature Conservancy for payment towards the acquisition of about 12 acres off Sunset Court in Carroll Township for environmental education, open space and habitat protection.

The CCPP grant program is administered by the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources to provide financial and technical assistance to local governments, river and trail organizations, land trusts and other nonprofits for the planning, acquisition and development of park, recreation, conservation and greenways projects. Funding for these projects comes from the Keystone Recreation, Park and Conservation Fund (Key 93), the Environmental Stewardship Fund (Growing Greener I) and Growing Greener Bond Fund (Growing Greener II).

Vance's district includes all of Cumberland County and Carroll, Fairview, Franklin, Monaghan, Warrington and Washington townships and Dillsburg, Franklintown and Wellsville boroughs in York County.
