Numerous Community Conservation Grants
Awarded, Vance Says
HARRISBURG – About $900,000 in Community Conservation
Partnerships Program grants recently were awarded in the
31st Senatorial District, said Sen. Pat Vance
(R-Cumberland/York).
"It is vital that open space be available in every area,"
Vance said. "Recreation helps build better communities.
Furthermore, through these grants we are ensuring that our
children will have places not only to play, but also view
plants and animals in their natural environment."
The grants awarded were:
- $189,000 to Carlisle Borough for development of Royer
Linear Park including construction of a multi-use paved
trail linking Valley Meadows Park with the Nottingham
housing development.
- $190,000 to the Central Pennsylvania Conservancy for
payment towards the acquisition of about 106 acres off of
Route 74 in Lower Frankford Township for open space and
passive recreation.
- $16,700 to Cumberland County to prepare a
conservation plan that provides critical aquifer overlay
district and model ordinances to protect the aquifer
recharge areas of Cumberland County.
- $200,000 to East Pennsboro Township to further
develop Adams Ricci Community Park including construction of
a skateboard park, access drive, parking lot, ADA access,
sign and related site improvements.
- $43,000 to Lower Frankford Township for development
of Opossum Lake Recreational Area including construction of
a pavilion, parking area and modular comfort station and ADA
access.
- $14,900 to Middlesex Township for development of
LeTort Falls Park including construction of a boat access
ramp, access road, paved parking area and ADA access.
- $100,000 to the Conservation Fund for payment towards
the acquisition of about 600 acres in Lower Mifflin Township
for open space and habitat protection.
- $28,000 to West Pennsboro Township for additional
funding to assist with the development of the West Pennsboro
Township parking including construction of multipurpose
athletic fields, parking areas, playground equipment and a
pedestrian trail.
- $32,000 to Logan Park Authority for further
development of Logan Park including construction of a
walking path, installation of play equipment, safety
surfacing and ADA access.
- $82,500 to the Nature Conservancy for payment towards
the acquisition of about 12 acres off Sunset Court in
Carroll Township for environmental education, open space and
habitat protection.
The CCPP grant program is administered by the
Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural
Resources to provide financial and technical assistance to
local governments, river and trail organizations, land
trusts and other nonprofits for the planning, acquisition
and development of park, recreation, conservation and
greenways projects. Funding for these projects comes from
the Keystone Recreation, Park and Conservation Fund (Key
93), the Environmental Stewardship Fund (Growing Greener I)
and Growing Greener Bond Fund (Growing Greener II).
Vance's district includes all of Cumberland County and
Carroll, Fairview, Franklin, Monaghan, Warrington and
Washington townships and Dillsburg, Franklintown and
Wellsville boroughs in York County.
