Vance Announces Townships Awarded Sewage Facilities Grants

HARRISBURG – More than $6,000 in Sewage Facilities Enforcement Grant recently were awarded to South Middleton and South Newton townships, said Sen. Pat Vance (R-Cumberland/York).

"Through sewer regulations, we are able to reduce the chance of pollution of the environment and ensure on-lot sewage systems are properly installed," Vance said. "Sewage pollution can cause illness in humans and animals. Thus is it vital to make sure they are done correctly."

Sewage Facilities Enforcement Grants are used to reimburse 50 percent of eligible expenses for performing state sewage regulations. South Middleton Township received $3,899. South Newton Township was awarded $2,305.

The state sewage regulations are outlined in the Pennsylvania Sewage Facilities Act (Act 537). This act was formed to correct existing sewage disposal problems and prevent future problems through proper planning of all types of sewage facilities and permitting of individual or community on-lot disposable systems (OLDS), as well as uniform standards for designing OLDS.

Vance's district includes all of Cumberland County and Carroll, Fairview, Franklin, Monaghan, Warrington and Washington townships and Dillsburg, Franklintown and Wellsville boroughs in York County.
