Seven Municipalities Awarded Sewage Facilities Grants, Vance Says

HARRISBURG – More than $19,000 in Sewage Facilities Enforcement Grants recently were awarded to seven townships in Cumberland and northern York counties, said Sen. Pat Vance (R-Cumberland/York)

"Properly built sewers prevent contamination of both land and water," Vance said. "By assisting municipalities with the financial aspect of implementing sewer regulations, we are protecting not only the health of humans, but also the entire environment."

Sewage Facilities Enforcement Grants are used to reimburse 50 percent of eligible expenses for performing state sewage regulations. Those receiving grants are:

Lower Frankford Township -- $440
North Newton Township -- $966
Penn Township -- $1,305
South Middleton Township -- $3,899
Upper Frankford Township -- $544
Carroll Township -- $9,590
Franklin Township -- $3,020

The state sewage regulations are outlined in the Pennsylvania Sewage Facilities Act (Act 537). This act was formed to correct existing sewage disposal problems and prevent future problems through proper planning of all types of sewage facilities and permitting of individual or community on-lot disposable systems (OLDS), as well as uniform standards for designing OLDS.

Vance's district includes all of Cumberland County and Carroll, Fairview, Franklin, Monaghan, Warrington and Washington townships and Dillsburg, Franklintown and Wellsville boroughs in York County.
