Numerous Community Conservation Grants Awarded, Vance Says

HARRISBURG – The Community Conservation Partnerships Program recently awarded $600,000 in grants to municipalities and authorities in the 31st Senatorial District, said Sen. Pat Vance (R-Cumberland/York).

"Creating and maintaining recreational opportunities in our area are vital to encouraging healthy lifestyles," Vance said. "As people reduce their amount of travel due to a variety of reasons, it is important that there are places to play, exercise and explore nature close to their homes. This grant program helps do that."

The grants awarded were:

  • $300,000 to Lemoyne Borough for a community swimming pool renovation.
  • 15,000 to Lower Allen Township to prepare a master site development plan for a 3.61-acre passive park next to the new municipal building.
  • $40,000 to Lower Frankford Township to develop the Opossum Lake recreation area.
  • $35,000 to the Redevelopment Authority of Cumberland County for a Walnut Street Bridge study.
  • $145,000 to Carroll Township for Chestnut Park development.
  • $25,000 to Fairview Township for a feasibility study to determine the location of a new community park.
  • $40,000 to Wellsville Borough for rehabilitation to the borough park.

The CCPP grant program is administered by the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources to provide financial and technical assistance to local governments, river and trail organizations, land trusts and other nonprofits for the planning, acquisition and development of park, recreation, conservation and greenways projects. Funding for these projects comes from the Keystone Recreation, Park and Conservation Fund (Key 93), the Environmental Stewardship Fund (Growing Greener I) and Growing Greener Bond Fund (Growing Greener II).

Vance's district includes all of Cumberland County and Carroll, Fairview, Franklin, Monaghan, Warrington and Washington townships and Dillsburg, Franklintown and Wellsville boroughs in York County.
