Vance Announces DEP Grant for Newville
HARRISBURG – A $150,000 Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) grant
recently was awarded to Newville Borough to repair a culvert, said Sen. Pat
Vance (R-Cumberland/York).
"This culvert has collapsed twice, backed up water and forced emergency
repairs," Vance said. "In addition, when the Rails to Trails from Newville to
Carlisle is completed, numerous people will pass this location. With this
funding a significantly safety hazard will be permanently repaired thus
improving the health, safety and welfare of the community for years to come."
The grant will be used to make repairs to a damaged culvert conveying Big
Spring Creek under two former Cumberland Valley Railroad embankments to prevent
the culvert's failure and subsequent flooding in Newville.
Vance's district includes all of Cumberland County and Carroll, Fairview,
Franklin, Monaghan, Warrington and Washington townships and Dillsburg,
Franklintown and Wellsville boroughs in York County. |
