Mosquito Surveillance Program Funding Awarded to Cumberland, York Counties,
Vance Says
HARRISBURG – Almost $200,000 in funding recently was awarded to Cumberland
and York counties as part of the state's Mosquito Surveillance Program, said
Sen. Pat Vance (R-Cumberland/York).
"While the recent rainy weather in the area is important to keep water tables
up, standing water can be a breeding ground for mosquitoes, which carry West
Nile Virus," Vance said. "This funding is critical to monitor the spread of this
virus and provide vital education to residents. Everyone can help control West
Nile by removing standing water on their property."
Cumberland County received $68,219 to implement a mosquito monitoring and
virus surveillance program to determine if West Nile Virus is present in the
county and to assist in alerting residents about the potential threat of West
Nile Virus. York County received $124,070 to do the same work.
Vance's district includes all of Cumberland County and Carroll, Fairview,
Franklin, Monaghan, Warrington and Washington townships and Dillsburg,
Franklintown and Wellsville boroughs in York County. |
