FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE York County Solid Waste Awarded Pollution Prevention Grant, Vance AnnouncesHARRISBURG – A $43,520 Pennsylvania Small Business and Household Pollution Prevention Grant recently was awarded to York County Solid Waste Authority for collection events held throughout York County, said Sen. Pat Vance (R-Cumberland/York). "The York County Solid Waste Authority has made a commitment to providing a safe and easy way for residents to dispose of household hazardous waste, such as drain cleaners, bleach, pesticides, brake fluid and fluorescent light bulbs," Vance said. "I encourage residents with such waste to call the authority or visit its Web site for the next collection event. Improper disposal of waste into septic tanks or sewage treatment plants can lead to long-term environmental consequences." The grant reimburses the authority 50 percent of the costs for developing and operating Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) collection events in 2007 and 2008 at Crossroads Middle School, Dover Township Municipal Building and the Solid Waste Management Center. Vance’s district includes all of Cumberland County and Carroll, Fairview, Franklin, Monaghan, Warrington and Washington townships and Dillsburg, Franklintown and Wellsville boroughs in York County. |
