FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Cumberland County Awarded Pollution Prevention Grant, Vance SaysHARRISBURG – Cumberland County recently received a $7,770 Pennsylvania Small Business and Household Pollution Prevention Grant for two collections events at the Cumberland County Service Center in Carlisle, said Sen. Pat Vance (R-Cumberland/York). "Since 1998 Cumberland County residents have participated in household hazardous waste collection events ridding the community of tons of common household products that are hazardous, but not regulated under federal or state laws," Vance said. "Careless disposal of these types of substances can create environmental and public health hazards. By providing disposal opportunities, residents have somewhere to appropriately discard of items such as solvents, disinfectants, oil-based paints and stains and used motor oil." The grant reimburses the authority 50 percent of the costs for developing and operating Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) collection events on April 4 and 5. Vance's district includes all of Cumberland County and Carroll, Fairview, Franklin, Monaghan, Warrington and Washington townships and Dillsburg, Franklintown and Wellsville boroughs in York County. |
