Vance Announces Cumberland County Receives Pollution Prevention Grant

HARRISBURG – A $32,483 Pennsylvania Small Business and Household Pollution Prevention Grant recently was awarded to Cumberland County for a collection event held this past spring, said Sen. Pat Vance (R-Cumberland/York).

"The Cumberland County Recycling and Waste Authority has consistently offered opportunities for residents to properly dispose of medications, electronics, yard waste and household hazardous waste," Vance said. "Each of these items, if discarded into landfills or drains, can cause long-term environmental consequences. I encourage residents to take advantage of these events in order to protect the area for years to come."

The grant reimburses the authority 50 percent of the costs for developing and operating Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) collection events. This grant in particular reimburses the county for a Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event held May 2 and 3 at the Cumberland County Service Center.

Vance's district includes all of Cumberland County and Carroll, Fairview, Franklin, Monaghan, Warrington and Washington townships and Dillsburg, Franklintown and Wellsville boroughs in York County.
