FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE American Lung Association Awarded Outreach Grant, Vance SaysHARRISBURG – A $28,000 Mobile Source Outreach Assistance Program grant recently was given to the American Lung Association of the Mid-Atlantic, Cumberland County, for idling education, said Sen. Pat Vance (R-Cumberland/York). "As a nurse, I understand the importance of good air quality for the health and well-being of area residents," Vance said. "Under the anti-idling law enacted last year, we have been able to reduce the amount of time diesel vehicles sit with their motors running. The American Lung Association is to be commended for its efforts." Administered by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, this grant will be used to educate the affected population in those areas where excessive idling has a more serious impact, as these areas are challenged to attain compliance with the fine particulate and ozone standards. In general the Mobile Source Outreach Assistance Program assists community-based mobile source public education efforts supporting implementation of the Clean Air Act and the Transportation Equity Act for the 21st Century. Vance's district includes all of Cumberland County and Carroll, Fairview, Franklin, Monaghan, Warrington and Washington townships and Dillsburg, Franklintown and Wellsville boroughs in York County. |
