Cumberland County Programs Receive Ten Arts Grants, Vance Says

HARRISBURG – More than $74,000 in Pennsylvania Council on the Arts grants recently were awarded to arts organizations and programs in Cumberland County, said Sen. Pat Vance (R-Cumberland/York).

"Arts play a key role in living a well-rounded life," Vance said. "Each of these recipients ensures arts experiences are available to the community in a wide variety of areas. I encourage residents to take advantage of these opportunities."

Those receiving grants are:

  • Cantate Carlisle -- $1,110 to support the organization.
  • Carlisle Arts Learning Center -- $2,134 to support art programs.
  • Carlisle Regional Performing Arts Center -- $7,851 to support the center.
  • Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet -- $41,788 to support the ballet.
  • Concertante Chamber Ensemble -- $3,268 to support the ensemble.
  • Dickinson College -- $1,442 to support the Bluegrass on the Grass Festival.
  • Mechanicsburg Art Center -- $5,329 to support the center.
  • Pennsylvania Regional Ballet -- $7,787 to support the ballet.
  • Shippensburg Arts Programming & Education (SHAPE) -- $1,156 to support the programs.
  • South Middleton School District -- $2,201 to support a 22-day single residency for interdisciplinary arts.

The Pennsylvania Council on the Arts each year distributes state funds to support arts organizations and programs throughout the state in order to deliver public programs to state residents. Over the past five years, the number of grantees the Council supports has increased from about 400 to more than 600.

Vance's district includes all of Cumberland County and Carroll, Fairview, Franklin, Monaghan, Warrington and Washington townships and Dillsburg, Franklintown and Wellsville boroughs in York County.
