FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE American Lung Association to Receive Grant to Promote Radon Awareness, Vance SaysHARRISBURG – The Department of Environmental Protection will soon award the American Lung Association of Pennsylvania in Cumberland County a $88,800 grant to increase radon understanding, said Sen. Pat Vance (R-Cumberland/York). "Radon is a colorless and odorless gas," Vance said. "There is no way to know if your home has this deadly gas without testing. As the second leading cause of lung cancer, I would encourage everyone to have their home tested. This grant will help relay this important information." The grant will be used to carry out radon awareness programs through September using the association's 10 regional and outreach centers across the Commonwealth. The programs will increase testing and knowledge about the health effects of radon. The funding comes from the State Indoor Radon Grant (SIRG) Program provided through the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. States use the funding to finance radon risk reduction programs. Recipients must provide a minimum of 40 percent in matching funds. By law, SIRG funds cannot be awarded to individuals or homeowners. Vance's district includes all of Cumberland County and Carroll, Fairview, Franklin, Monaghan, Warrington and Washington townships and Dillsburg, Franklintown and Wellsville boroughs in York County. |
