American Lung Association Receives Grant to Promote Ozone Awareness, Vance Announces

HARRISBURG – The Department of Environmental Protection recently awarded $51,900 to the American Lung Association of the Mid-Atlantic, Cumberland County, to increase ozone understanding, said Sen. Pat Vance (R-Cumberland/York).

"Ground-level ozone is a gas formed by a chemical reaction and can cause significant health risks to people, especially children with asthma," Vance said. "By not idling vehicles, combining errands to reduce trips in vehicles and avoiding oil- and solvent-based paints, degreasers and lighter fuels, everyone can do their part of reduce ozone. This grant will help get this important message out."

This Clean Air Fund grant will actively educate the public about ground-level ozone pollution and the steps that can be taken to reduce the chemical precursors that form ozone. The fund awards grants to eliminate air pollution.

Vance's district includes all of Cumberland County and Carroll, Fairview, Franklin, Monaghan, Warrington and Washington townships and Dillsburg, Franklintown and Wellsville boroughs in York County.
