FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Community Supported Agriculture Focus of Vance ProgramHARRISBURG – The July edition of the Vance Report will spotlight Silver Spring Township farm Shared Earth, which offers community supported agriculture (CSA) to area residents, said host Sen. Pat Vance (R-Cumberland/York). A CSA gives people access to locally grown vegetables direct from the farmer through a membership fee to pay for production costs. The fee is based on the size of the harvest desired. Each week participants pick up their portion of the yield. This is the fifth year that Amy Leber has been offering such a program at Shared Earth. "Community supported agriculture develops a relationship between the farmer and consumer for the benefit of both," Vance said. "The consumer provides needed funding at the beginning of the season when farmers buy their seeds, and the consumer receives just picked fresh vegetables and the knowledge of how and where they were grown." Vance's show airs on Blue Ridge Communications at 6 p.m. on Tuesdays on Channel 8. Comcast Cable subscribers can view the program on Local Video on Demand (Get Local). Finally, York Community Access airs the program at 9 p.m. on the second Tuesday of the month on Channel 16. Vance's district includes all of Cumberland County and Carroll, Fairview, Franklin, Monaghan, Warrington and Washington townships and Dillsburg, Franklintown and Wellsville boroughs in York County. |
