Community Conservation Grant Awarded to Dillsburg, Vance Says

HARRISBURG – The Community Conservation Partnerships Program recently awarded a $234,800 grant to Dillsburg to help build the borough's first community park, said Sen. Pat Vance (R-Cumberland/York).

"A park will provide an enormous benefit to the residents living nearby, the school district, and surrounding municipalities," Vance said.  "It also will serve as a focal point for future community-based events and recreational activities and become a gathering place for generations."

The grant will be used to acquire about five acres off South Chestnut Street across from Dillsburg Elementary School for the park. Future development phases may include large and small dog park areas, connecting walking paths, parking lot, playground facilities, community swimming pool, restroom activities and community services building.

The C2P2 grant program is administered by the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources to provide financial and technical assistance to local governments, river and trail organizations, land trusts and other nonprofits for the planning, acquisition and development of park, recreation, conservation and greenways projects. Funding for these projects comes from the Keystone Recreation, Park and Conservation Fund (Key 93), the Environmental Stewardship Fund, the ATV/Snowmobile Fund and federal funds.

Vance's district includes all of Cumberland County and Carroll, Fairview, Franklin, Monaghan, Warrington and Washington townships and Dillsburg, Franklintown and Wellsville boroughs in York County.
