Vance Announces Three Community Conservation Grants

HARRISBURG – Three Community Conservation Partnerships Program grants recently were awarded to Cumberland Valley Rails-to-Trails, Lower Allen Township and Upper Allen Township, said Sen. Pat Vance (R-Cumberland/York).

"As gas prices remain high, area residents continue to look for recreational opportunities close to home," Vance said. "The projects funded through this program expand the choices available and help improve the health of the community."

The grants awarded were:

  • $150,000 to Cumberland Valley Rails-to-Trails Council for further development of the Cumberland Valley Trail between Shippensburg Township Park to the intersection of Fort Street and North Earl Street in Shippensburg.
  • $201,700 to Lower Allen Township for Phase 1 development of Cedar Spring Run Park.
  • $125,000 to Upper Allen Township for further development of Winding Hills Park.

The C2P2 grant program is administered by the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources to provide financial and technical assistance to local governments, river and trail organizations, land trusts and other nonprofits for the planning, acquisition and development of park, recreation, conservation and greenways projects. Funding for these projects comes from the Keystone Recreation, Park and Conservation Fund (Key 93), the Environmental Stewardship Fund,  the ATV/Snowmobile Fund and federal funds.

Vance's district includes all of Cumberland County and Carroll, Fairview, Franklin, Monaghan, Warrington and Washington townships and Dillsburg, Franklintown and Wellsville boroughs in York County.
